As I’ve said previously I try to have plenty to do during the school holidays. Plenty of things that will keep both children busy, don’t need too much adult interaction and are fun. Since we moved into our new home last month we have been very tempted by the ice cream parlour just down the road. It’s been a big lure for the children, they love ice cream. So when we received the ChillFactor Ice Cream Magic Tray they were very excited.
All you need to make soft serve ice cream with the ChillFactor Ice Cream Magic Tray is cream and flavouring. We chose Herseys chocolate syrup to make chocolate ice cream.
The kit comes with a sturdy base, tools for scraping the ice cream and chopping/crushing toppings. First thing to note is that you need to pre-freeze the magic tray. It’s easy to set up, all you need is salt and water, then you pop it in the freezer (ours wouldn’t go cold enough but ideally you would want to turn your freezer down to around minus 10C.)
Then you just pour your flavoured cream onto the tray and using the spatula you churn the cream into soft serve. We found that even though our tray wasn’t quite cold enough we found that it quickly started to freeze the cream. Soon we had a small serving of soft serve. It’s worth noting that you can’t make massive amounts because as the tray warms up it does get less effective but you should be able to get a couple of reasonable servings for one go.
My two love the principle of the ChillFactor Ice Cream Magic Tray and even though we couldn’t quite get it right they are eager to keep trying! Their love of ice cream clearly knows no bounds! You can add your own toppings and treats to your ice cream, my two chose blueberries and whipped cream but you could go as healthy or unhealthy as you like, crushed meringues and strawberry ice cream would be delicious!
