Afternoon Tea At Holdsworth House

Afternoon Tea At Holdsworth House

In need of a special activity to share with LissyLou whilst Daddy Ramblings and C headed off for a boys night in at Grandads house I decided we needed to do something involving cake.

I decided that afternoon tea was the order of the day and luckily managed to book in for Afternoon Tea At Holdsworth House in Halifax, West Yorkshire at short notice the day before. The entire process from enquiring by email to paying once we’d finished today was refreshingly simple and showed great customer service. I’d been to a wedding there about 10 years ago and knew it was a hidden gem.

Holdsworth House is a beautiful hotel, built in around 1598 it is truly stunning, nestled in pretty grounds in a very unassuming location it truly is a bit of a hidden gem. Well apart from the fact that it’s a well known wedding venue and has been visited by many celebrities including the Beatles and REM over the years! The location may seem unusual nestled amongst a complex of secondary schools but head down the private track and you find the beautiful hotel.

Externally, Holdsworth House looks beautiful, internally it has many stunning features and LissyLou and I were pleased to find ourselves in a small dining space and we enjoyed the whole section to ourselves to enjoy our afternoon tea in peace. This made the experience very special and allowed LissyLou to wander around looking at the old paintings and furniture as we waited. From the moment we arrived the staff made every effort to ensure we were happy and comfortable, everyone we spoke to was lovely, particularly Kat who made LissyLou feel very grown up and gave us excellent service and advice on how best to enjoy the gardens. Even offering to get apples from the chef so that we could feed the horses in the adjacent field which was just a lovely, special touch. Good customer service is often hard to come across nowadays but seriously it’s one of the main reasons why I go back to places, that and good food, no surprise there!

Afternoon Tea At Holdsworth House

The Afternoon Tea At Holdsworth House is something special. Served on pretty floral china it looked amazing. Consisting of pretty little sandwiches, homemade battenburg cake, delicious heart shaped shortbread biscuits with cream and strawberries, chocolate covered marshmallow lollypops and of course warm scones, it was a delight! I was pleased to be presented with a large teapot full of tea and was even offered more! LissyLou enjoyed milk from her china tea cup which made her feel very grown up. Care had been taken to make plain cheese sandwiches for LissyLou which she gobbled up with gusto! I enjoyed smoked salmon, roast beef and cheese and pickle in my array of sandwiches and the scone was particularly good!

Everything was delicious, good quality produce and care and attention to detail made it a fantastic experience, helped by the fact that we were able to order just a half portion for LissyLou and we were provided with a carton full of leftovers to take away.

Afternoon Tea At Holdsworth House

We couldn’t have asked for more and I would highly recommend Afternoon Tea At Holdsworth House, it cost £22.45 for one and a half portions (it’s £14.95 for one portion) and I felt this was very reasonable, particularly if you compare that cost to what I would have spent on sandwiches, cakes and drinks in a high street coffee shop and the Afternoon Tea At Holdsworth House was far superior to anything we’ve had on the high street. Seriously, go to Holdsworth House it’s a lovely place to visit and I dare you not to enjoy the afternoon tea! You can even buy gift vouchers which make a lovely gift.

After we’d finished our tea we headed into the garden to enjoy the lovely surroundings a little before we left, we weren’t disappointed, it’s a beautiful place to visit and we will definitely visit again soon!
