Dallas – Did We Really Need It Back?
So Dallas is back. Did we really need it back? Were writers short of new ideas or were the setting, characters and storylines for Dallas too good to have lost?
Original Dallas went off air in 1991, I was 10 when it finished so I didn’t watch it first time round. I’ve heard of it and obviously the famous “Who shot JR” storyline has been the topic of lots of TV shows since but Dallas itself stayed away. Until now.
For me, when you say the words Dallas I think of oil, cliffhangers and of course who shot JR. But having never watched it I wanted to know more before deciding whether or not to watch the new series. Warner Brothers sent me Dallas Series 1 and 2 on DVD to watch so that I could learn more about Dallas and the Ewings, before I start watching the new series.
I was disappointed to find that they had not digitally remastered the episodes for re-release so it wasn’t the usual high quality recording and finish that you get with modern programmes. But if you were a Dallas fan first time round you might find this endearing. If you haven’t watched Dallas then basically you are in for wealth, power struggles, conflict and strife. The oil industry at it’s dark and treacherous best. It’s full of big characters and fiery storylines. I think Dallas was such a huge programme and it’s success was unexpected, clearly the power of the characters is still going strong, the buzz on Twitter and facebook prior to the start of the new series was huge!
Dallas, series 1 and 2 is out on DVD now, available for £12.86 from Amazon, or if you are up for a mega Dallas marathon they have a huge box set with series 1-14 for just £100!
Were you a Dallas fan first time round, are you watching the new series?
