It’s clean to go green, but is it right for me?

If you’re considering going green, you are likely already well-versed in the benefits that it can entail for the environment, but you may be wondering how it will affect your household, your budget, and your day-to-day activities. The little known secret about green living is that it has just as many benefits for families as it does for the earth. For example, many people find that they can save money, get in shape, and feel healthier once they begin to adapt green habits.

How can I go green?

One of the greatest ways to go green is to use cleaner sources of energy for your electricity at home, which can prevent the emission of carbon gases into the atmosphere on your behalf. If every family in the UK takes the challenge to switch to green energy, the entire nation could move toward a goal of a carbon-free future.

This goal for 100 percent renewable energy in the UK is one that Good Energy has adapted and pushed forward to get more families on board. As the nation’s only completely renewable energy company, Good Energy has a vision for a nation powered solely by clean sources of electricity, and they are working on reaching that goal by offering accessible green energy to households that otherwise would not have the time or money to install a sustainable energy system of their own.

All it takes to switch to green energy is a simple phone call, but if you’re committed to living a green lifestyle, there are many other things that you can do. For example, updating particular areas of your home, such as the common areas, kitchens, and bathrooms, can help you save more energy. Shower heads that restrict the flow of water can help you reduce the amount of energy needed for heating, and small changes such as replacing your incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent light bulbs can help you save on the 10 percent of your budget that goes toward lighting. In the kitchen, you can also try to cook more efficiently by boiling water in the microwave instead of on the stove top and making sure that you use pot sizes that correspond with each stove burner to prevent heat loss.

Going green can also have a positive influence on your family life, as well. Working together to find ways to save energy at home provides a fun and free way for you to spend more quality time with your children and/or spouse. In addition, there are also green activities that you can do outside of the home to improve your sense of well-being and take care of the environment. Examples of family outings that are green-friendly include a cycling trip to the nearest park or wildlife reserve or a day at the market to sample and purchase local organic food items.

Once you begin to reap the benefits of developing eco-friendly habits, you will be glad you did. To start feeling the effects of a cleaner, greener lifestyle, make the switch today.
